Culture
In Valcamonica, history is right along the way. Here are some places of great cultural value, reachable by bike: many lie on the Oglio cycle path, the others just a short climb away.
The Oglio cycle path runs up the valley floor from Lake Iseo and acts as the thread connecting everything: it reaches or skirts most of the key sites, and a little extra pedalling on the mountain bike takes you to the rest. A selection of destinations worth adding to your ride.
Rock carvings — Capo di Ponte
The UNESCO site no. 94, "Rock Art of Valcamonica": the Naquane Park, Italy's first archaeological park, with over a hundred engraved rocks, and nearby the Massi di Cemmo, the Seradina-Bedolina park and the MUPRE prehistory museum. Capo di Ponte is on the cycle path; the parks are a few minutes' climb away.

Roman archaeological park — Cividate Camuno
The ancient Civitas Camunnorum: a Roman theatre and amphitheatre right in the centre, and the National Archaeological Museum of Valcamonica. It's on the valley floor, easy by bike, and connects to the Sanctuary of Minerva via the Barberino hill.

Sanctuary of Minerva — Breno (Spinera)
A Roman temple along the Oglio cycle path, in a bend of the river at the foot of the rock. It's also one of our itineraries.

Santa Maria della Neve — Pisogne
At the southern gateway to the valley, where the cycle path starts on Lake Iseo: it holds the famous fresco cycle by Romanino, nicknamed "the Sistine Chapel of the poor". A perfect first stop as you enter Valcamonica.

Old village and forge — Bienno
One of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with its water-powered forge still working and its old mills: a short detour that pairs the ride with medieval charm.

Santa Maria Assunta — Esine
In our own town, a parish church with an important cycle of 15th-century frescoes. On the valley floor, a few minutes from the cycle path.

For the rock carvings there is a combined ticket covering the Naquane Park, the MUPRE museum and the Archaeological Museum in Cividate Camuno. Opening times vary with the season: always check the official sites before setting off.
